Introducing Heather Wheating, the new Coordinator for the Castlegar Hospice Society.
Heather is looking forward to working with the volunteers and board in the meaningful work of
supporting others as they are faced with the challenges of grief, dying, and death.
Heather has worked in the Social Service field since 1987 covering a spectrum of positions: Victim
Services; Addictions; Family Violence; FASD; Community Living; Community Wellness; and counseling,
in front line, supervisory and management positions. She has a Human Service Worker Certificate from
Thompson Rivers University and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from University of Waterloo.
On a personal level Heather has lived mostly in small communities throughout BC and also living and
working 8 years in the Arctic, Tuktoyaktuk and Inuvik, specifically. Heather has made Castlegar her
home for 5 years and is loving this small town with a big heart and lots to offer! She is blessed with 5
grown children, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Swimming, knitting, reading, and walking in
the woods with her Corgi, Bobby, are passions for Heather, while learning to draw and play guitar are
